Republicans in Utah are so pro-life that they just passed a bill to allow death by firing squad. Yeah, they want to make that a thing again.
On Tuesday, Utah’s Senate voted 18-10 to pass the bill that would make death by firing squad the alternate execution method if lethal injection drugs could not be found 30-days before the scheduled death. The same bill passed Utah’s House last month. If Governor Gary Herbert (R) signs the bill into law, Utah would be the first state to bring the firing squad back.
Republican Rep. Paul Ray, the bill’s sponsor, says death by firing squad is a more humane way to kill prisoners. Humane! Sure, it’s about as humane as taking an injured dog out into the backyard and shooting him because you can’t afford to take him to the vet.
He said that the bill is just a back-up plan in case the lethal injection drugs cannot be found:
We would love to get the lethal injection worked out so we can continue with that. But if not, now we have a backup plan. [Source]
It’s always important to have a back-up plan!
Republicans call out Middle Easterners all around the world for being barbaric, and yet, here they are, doing something just as barbaric as ISIS beheading someone. Do you think that’s an unfair comparison? It’s not, when done right beheading someone is just as quick as shooting them.
Oh! I have an idea!! Let’s start executing people with a guillotine!
How can this party call themselves ‘pro-life’ and then turn around and fight for alternative methods to kill people? That is about as pro-life as forcing women to have babies and then trying to cut programs like WIC to help feed those babies.
It’s time to stop pretending that this is a party that gives two flying blanks about “life” or “God” or anything even remotely civilized. They don’t; they care about revenge, hate, and money. Period.
