The GOP believes that ALL lives are sacred–often until they are an actual live person–without regard to how the woman was impregnated, often against abortion even in cases of pregnancy resulting from rape or incest, and even when the pregnancy threatens the life of the mother that is responsible for ensuring the well-being, health and life of the unborn.
What about when a newborn child is born “pregnant”? This conversation may veer of to the immaculate conception, but in reality this is more likely a case of twins or triplets and the dominant embryo is the host for the other twin or twins.
On February 9, 2015, doctors in Hong Kong reported that they removed two fetuses from the abdomen of a 3 week old girl who was born “pregnant”, or otherwise known as “fetus-in-fetu”.
Dr. Yu Kai-man, a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, said tests were performed on the newborn when a pair of tumors were detected in her abdomen and doctors determined the growths were actually twin fetuses weighing 14.2 grams and 9.3 grams after 8 to 10 weeks of gestation.
Yu and colleagues wrote in a study published in the February issue of the Hong Kong Medical Journal the fetuses each had an umbilical cord connected to a single placenta-like mass in the girl’s abdomen. The discovery was made in November 2010 and fetuses were removed from the infant’s abdomen.
“It was almost impossible to detect during the prenatal checkup, as the embryo inside the baby was too small,” Yu said. “Since it is impossible for the little girl to have conceived the pregnancy on her own, the fertilization of the twin fetuses, of course, belongs to her parents, which has gone to the wrong place.”
Yu said the condition is known as “fetus-in-fetu” and occurs about once in every 500,000 births, with fewer than 200 cases reported in literature.
The doctors said the condition is classified by the World Health Organization as a mature teratoma, a type of cancer, but the cause is unknown.
Nazia’s doctor explained to the Associated Press, “Basically it’s a case of triplets but two of the siblings grew inside the other.”
A 1-year-old Chinese child carried a “fetus” until the tumor was removed after a serious 10-hour surgery in 2009. Kang Menguru made a full recovery.
In the most severe cases, the “fetus” isn’t found until much later in the carrier’s life. An 18-year-old Egyptian boy underwent major surgery to have a retained twin removed in 2011. That same year in Indonesia, a 41-year-old man underwent surgery to have a suspected tumor removed. Doctors instead found a “fetus.”
In cases of “fetus-in-fetu,” the tissue growth only survive in utero and as a result is considered to be more of a tumor than an actual fetus.
If the GOP continue on their path of all lives being sacred until they are born, and forcing the impregnated to carry full term whether it is good or viable for the “host” human or not, where does that leave these infants?
