Anti-Gay GOPer Pete Sessions: Pulse, One Of The Most Famous Gay Clubs In America, Wasn’t A Gay Club

Republicans are falling all over themselves to avoid the fact that the shooting at Orlando’s Pulse Nightclub was a targeted attack on the LGBTQ community. Most have simply ignored the fact and tweeted generic condolences that we all know they don’t mean, but anti-gay Texas Congressman Pete Sessions (R-Of Course) took that denial to a whole other level.

You see, there was an amendment called the Maloney Amendment that was designed to stop federal contractors from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. In the wake of the horrific massacre, Sessions was asked, point blank, if he still opposed that amendment. His response was to flat out deny that Pulse, one of the most well-known gay bars in America is, well, not a gay bar at all. In fact, it is a famous string of gay bars around the nation. That well-known fact did not stop this response from Congressman Sessions, though:

It was a young person’s nightclub, I’m told. And there were some [LGBT people] there, but it was mostly Latinos.

Here is the tweet from the National Journal reporter who asked Sessions what he planned to do regarding that amendment:

No, you moron, it is most definitely a gay bar. There were lots of Latino Americans there because they were holding a special Latin Night as a Pride event. However, the club itself was a gay club. You know this, you just don’t want to acknowledge the fact that this attack was definitely a deliberate assault on LGBTQ Americans. That’s the only reason you’re saying that. You can’t publicly acknowledge that you share the same hate for LGBTQ people that this deranged gunman did. I wouldn’t be surprised if your views lined up with those of the shooter and you aren’t secretly glad this happened.

No one this hateful and ignorant has any business holding public office. VOTE THESE HATERS OUT in November.
