If you’ve ever been on a subway when a nutbar walks through spewing their homophobic rhetoric, you will more than appreciate this video.
Rob Maiale, a copywriter and voice actor, encountered that very situation, and his response was priceless.
The video starts with Maiale already into his version of “Golden Ticket” from the famous “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” as the preacher stands stunned not knowing just what to do.
Of course, he begins spouting some more rhetoric towards the end, but the damage is done, the other passengers have applauded Maiale, and the effectiveness, (as if there were any) of the preacher’s rant has gone out the window.
In an interview with Gothamist, Maiale said:
He began denouncing same-sex relationships… unpopular opinion and a bit irritating, but again, First Amendment. I didn’t say anything. Once his ‘preaching’ shifted from an audience to an individual (a lesbian couple with a child) I decided that this guy wasn’t going to get to talk anymore.
Maiale called his song “equally absurd and joyful.”
It certainly was.
This isn’t the first time this preacher has been shut down on the subway. Last November, openly gay actress Lea DeLaria from “Orange is the New Black” shut him down with a loud and boisterous rant of her own. The passengers were equally pleased.
This guy is a zealot who will never learn. At least the reasonable people get to laugh at him when the real talent shows up.
