Bad Judgment 101: High School Teacher Shows His Class The Human Centipede 2 (TWEETS)

It’s safe to say that most of us have heard of The Human Centipede films, even if we haven’t seen any of them. I know I haven’t viewed even a second of a single one of them. But they appeal to a certain segment of horror film aficionados, otherwise why are there three of them and another in the works?

One of those fans is a teacher in Tennessee. The unnamed teacher at Jackson Central-Merry High School made his class watch The Human Centipede 2 on April 20th. Needless to say, parents were not amused. Superintendent Verna Ruffin acted quickly, sending a letter home with the students:

I understand that on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, your student may have inadvertently viewed inappropriate content in a JCM classroom. This occurrence is inconsistent with our Mission and Vision at Jackson Central Merry. I have investigated the situation and talked to those involved. Immediate action has been taken to assure that there will be no further occurrences.

The name of the film was not mentioned. Ruffin, speaking to The Jackson Sun, later confirmed that the film in question was, indeed, The Human Centipede 2. She also said that the teacher involved has been suspended pending an investigation into the “inappropriate and unacceptable” incident. The Sun’s reporter, Katherine Burgess, Tweeted this press release from the Jackson-Madison County School System:

Nobody knows why the teacher thought it was okay to show a film that was banned in several countries and that is rightly referred to as “torture porn.” But one person (well, besides the teacher) was completely fine with it. The man who made the Human Centipede films, Tom Six, got wind of the incident and Tweeted:

Maybe it does. But I doubt anyone who has been bullied would take such drastic action. It’s pretty labor-intensive for one thing. It calls for some medical training and, worst of all, it is unbelievably gross. Also, I doubt anyone wanting to get revenge for being bullied would want to be sexually aroused by it, as the lead character in the film does.

In my opinion, of course — I know some people like it, though I can’t fathom why. And I have been a horror movie fan since I watched The House on Haunted Hill when I was 4-years-old. I work for Stephen King’s website, so I know from horror. This, for me, isn’t horror. It’s just disgusting. But, to each his own.

The only person pleased about this entire affair is Tom Six. Of course he is. As the saying goes, “There’s no such thing as bad publicity.” The filmmaker would like to give something to the teacher who showed The Human Centipede 2 to his class:

How delightful! I’m sure the teacher would love that. Until either the school identifies him or he identifies himself, that autographed copy will have to wait. I’m sure that teacher would be pleased to know that THC #4 is on its way. Terrific.
