A Utah woman has just experienced every parent’s worst nightmare. While dropping one of her children off at daycare, someone stole her car with her 3-year-old son inside.
As luck would have it, her cell phone was also in the car. When authorities called the phone in hopes that the perpetrator would answer, they were shocked to hear 3-year-old Aiden on the line. Not only was this boy savvy enough to answer his mother’s phone, but he was able to help police locate the abandoned car.
After police learned that Aiden was alone in the abandoned car, they instructed him to start honking the horn. He was located just a few short moments later, unharmed. Aiden was rescued and reunited with his mother less than 45 minutes after the 2012 Mazda 3 was stolen.
Ogden, UT police are hailing Aiden as a hero, and made him an honorary junior Police Officer for a day. His mother was impressed that he not only knew to answer the phone, but he also figured out her pass code.
In a statement the boy’s mother said:
I’m so glad we found him as fast as we did. Just be very careful. Even if you don’t think it can happen to you, it can.
Elizabeth Barrios has learned a tough lesson, and has vowed never again to leave her car running unattended.
