A woman who fatally shot her boyfriend while learning how to shoot a gun will be charged with manslaughter, according to a story on KBTX.com. Raquel Ramos is currently being held on a $100,000 bond, and told police that she’d never fired a gun before. Supposedly, her boyfriend was teaching her safe gun handling procedures.
The weapon in question was a shotgun, and the shooting occurred in a residential neighborhood of Kirby, which is just outside San Antonio. According to Fox 29, police say that Ramos’ boyfriend arrived with the shotgun sometime early in the morning, and started trying to show her how to use it. He apparently wanted her to be able to defend herself.
Ramos’ son was also in the house at the time of the incident, but he wasn’t hurt. Police believe that alcohol played a role in the shooting. They haven’t released the victim’s name yet.
Under the law, manslaughter means that there was no planning on Ramos’ part. Authorities currently have no reason to believe Ramos was planning to kill her boyfriend, and it appears this happened as a result of the often tragic combination of alcohol and guns.
