Bloomberg is reporting that President-elect Donald Trump has directed his transition team to ferret out every Energy Department employee and contractor who are more likely to believe in human-made climate change.
According to Bloomberg, Trump’s transition team sent the Energy Department a memo containing a list of 65 questions.
Trump’s team asked for a:
“‘…list of Energy Department employees and contractors who worked on key Obama climate policies, attended any United Nations climate meetings,’ or have anything to do with the ‘social cost of carbon.’”
Anonymous Energy Department employees reportedly told Bloomberg that “agency staff were unsettled by the Trump team’s information request.”
“It’s certainly alarming that they would be targeting specific employees in this way,” said Michael Halpern, deputy director of the Center for Science and Democracy at the Union of Concerned Scientists. “Scientists are looking at this with some suspicion, because many of the people who have been chomping at the bit to dismantle federal climate change science programs are now deeply embedded in the transition.”
In an opinion column by R. Muse, the writer states:
“Forget for a moment that there is no legitimate reason for a private citizen like Trump to ask for a ‘detailed list’ of Energy Department employees, or contractors, except for retribution and vengeance. The vengeance is part of Trump’s pledge to fossil fuel to completely wipe out any and all of America’s attempts to fight climate change or promote clean and renewable energy sources.
Trump believes the Energy Department exists to set energy policies dictated by the petroleum industry. It is worth noting that besides taking vengeance on Energy Department employees, Trump’s administration promises to be extremely hostile to clean and renewable energy and any federal or state regulation seeking to curb carbon emissions responsible for climate change.”
According to Bloomberg, a person close to Trump’s transition team explained that the request was an effort to:
“…ensure transparency on the formation of existing, Obama-era policy.”
Trump’s energy transition team is headed up by Tom Pyle, president of American Energy Alliance (a free market advocacy group funded by Big Oil).
Bloomberg also reported that neither Pyle, media reps for Trump’s transition team, nor an energy department spokesperson replied to calls and emails by the time they published their report.
Trump’s brazen contempt for ethics, the U.S. Constitution, and environmental science is just another grim confirmation that America’s in for four years of hell.
